pfsense – Internet access on OPT interface

pfsense, a very powerful open source router OS that supports multi-WAN. So you want internet access on an OPT interface for a second LAN or even a Wi-Fi network, or maybe even a DMZ network?

Enable the OPT1 interface. Go to interfaces –> (assign) –>Click the icon_plus and add an OPT1 interface.

Assign a static IP address on a separate subnet, other than your LAN subnet, and save.

Go to Firewall –> NAT –> Outbound –> and enable AON. Add an entry for your OPT1 like below:

And add the appropriate firewall rules such as mirroring the rules from the LAN to your OPT1 interface and replacing the network from your LAN to your new OPT1 subnet.

  1. Mr. Schaefer, I have pfsense v. 1.2.3. I have setup my LAN/WAN and all works fine. I have also an onboard nic that isnt being used. I need to setup this as my OPT interface but there is no + sign to add another interface. What do I need to do to get this onboard nic recognized?? Please Please help me if you can!
    Thank you so much
